Commencement speakers

Celebrate success at Commencement 2010!
Thursday, May 13 | 6 p.m. | Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall

This year's commencement ceremony will feature keynote speaker Eric Davis and Administrative Office Assistant program graduate Iris Silber.

Eric Davis, a consultant, trainer, keynote speaker with DMG Associates, and an associate faculty member with Bellevue Community College, has more than 15 years experience delivering innovative diversity/inclusion and leadership services and programs.

He has consulted with Fortune 500 companies, higher education institutions, government organizations, professional associations and private companies throughout the country. He focuses on diversity management, intercultural communication, leadership development, conflict resolution, and student success.

Eric holds a Master of Education from Seattle University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.

His keynote speech is titled Fly like an Eagle.

Iris L. Silber is a graduate of the Administrative Office Assistant program.

Following the end of her 21-year marriage, she struggled to support herself for several years. Realizing she needed to upgrade her skills to compete in today’s workforce, Iris made the decision to move from California to Washington to live with family and attend college.

Bates’ emphasis on diversity and the individual needs of the student attracted Iris. “When I walked in the doors of Bates, I just knew this was where I fit,” she says. As a student, she volunteered for the Associated Student Government as a club coordinator and senator. She also began a work study job in the IT department.

Today, Iris works part-time in the IT department managing student accounts, the student help desk, and a variety of assignments while she pursues full-time employment opportunities.
