Employees can buy out their sick leave

Employees now have an opportunity to buy out their sick leave, in accordance with RCW 41.04.340 and WAC 356-18-050. If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete and sign the Sick Leave Buy Out Request Form and return it to Veta Paget in Human Resources, M326 by Jan. 31. Remember, the remaining sick leave balance after the buyout must be at least 60 days. For more information, check your email inbox or contact Human Resources, x7174.

Pierce County Library System invites you to Social Security 101

Are you thinking about retirement, or retiring early? Then you're probably wondering about your Social Security benefits, too. The Pierce County Library System is offering a free class on everything you wanted to know about Social Security benefits on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 6-7:30 p.m., at the Processing and Administration Center, 3005 112th Street E., public meeting room A. This workshop is free and for all ages, and explores the following topics:

• Retirement benefits and eligibility
• What does early retirement do to your benefits
• How survivors benefits can help your family
• How does Social Security figure your benefit
• Learn about Medicare, disability, spouse benefits
• What can you do online with SSA
• Learn if Social Security will be around in 30 years
• Understand how to get the most from your program
