BARC needs your help and participation!

Oktoberfest. Holiday Food and Toy Drive. Staff Picnic. These are just a few of the events the college's employee-run Bates Activities and Recreation Committee (BARC) has organized for their fellow co-workers. BARC has even coordinated discounted fun trips to shows, wineries, and even Leavenworth.

BARC prides itself on supporting you for all you do for Bates, but now we are in need of your help!

Whether or not you know it, there are a just a few of your fellow employees who put on these events, with the help of the facilities and culinary arts folks.

Some of the BARC members have been on the committee for more than a decade! Soon, co-chairs Geof Kaufman and Patrick Brown will step down, and the committee needs new members and new leaders to help rejuvinate and keep the committee going.

As with any long-standing committee, council or board, new members bring energy and fresh ideas and perspective to the group. Without this periodic renewal, any group may get stuck in doing the same old thing or worse, they may lose sight of what its goals are and fizzle out.

If you want to participate in planning and organizing staff events, exercise your leadership skills, and get to know your co-workers, please participate in BARC.

BARC usually meets the first Friday of the month at 8 a.m. in the Downtown Campus cafeteria. Contact Geof Kaufman, x7105 or Patrick Brown, x7014 if you are interested in helping to revitalize your BARC.
